It won't create a hotter spark, only the coil can do that. You cannot damage the engine in any way that I'm aware of. Platinum, Split-Fire and the new Bosch plugs you've seen just allow a weak ignition system a better chance to make a spark at the plug. If you have a fully functional and properly set up ignition system the specialty plugs will give you no difference than a single (standard) electrode plug. It is my opinion that these plugs are part of the 'no maintenance engine' that many companies are working towards. Well, and a little marketing hype as well to sell a product :) By having four electrodes for the spark to jump from, the *life* of the plug is greatly extended. Yes, with the extra electrodes it would be more difficult to gap the plugs but with the modern ignition systems being used today they put out enough juice to bridge the gap should it be a little larger than stock. Unless your air-cooled engine has an after-market ignition system (capacitive discharge or computerized) to compensate I doubt the stock system can if the gaps are too large. I'm guessing here, but wouldn't Bosch make several different plugs for the various gaps of the different auto manufacturers? All you'd need to do is find the one with the gap closest to the one you need (maybe some gentle taps with a hammer and measuring with a small feeler gauge?). xU hey all use the same gap nowadays... Stick with the standard plugs. Use platinum plugs if you want. But I'd recommend staying away from specialty plugs.
