Quite a story. You'll need to replace all the hoses, probably brake lines, too. Pump out all the old brake fluid, it'll be useless and you'll probably eventually need rebuilt or replacement calipers and cylinders if not a master cylinder. When I was reviving mine, I made sure I could stop before I could go. Fresh battery, of course. New generator belt, too. Squirt some oil into the cylinders and bar the engine around to get the cylinder walls lubed. Check compression. Might not hurt to turn it over with the starter with the plugs out to get oil pressure up before starting, too. You'll have to drain the gas tank, you might want to check it over for corrosion before filling it again. Not too hard to take out with it drai悲the hoses off. You might want to try my propane starting trick to run it without the FI stuff, just to get an idea of how well the thing will run. I just use a standard Bernzomatic-type propane torch with the head off and stick it in the air distributor butterfly. It'll get the thing started and will probably run for a little while that way. Change the oil, check the timing and valves before, of course. Consider changing the tranny lube, too. Probably all the rubber seals will be cracked or hard, you might end up with a leak at the flywheel end, either from a hard o-ring or the flywheel-case seal. I've had the o-ring leak, it's no fun out on the road. You might have to persuade your FI pump to run again if it's got old gas varnish in it. That ought to be enough for one Saturday.
