What is the right way to remove it? It is a small white > plastic hexagon right behind the ignition switch. The part that is your problem is the ignition switch. The part that worked ok is just the ignition lock cylinder. The switch has all the electrical switch connections in it and can be separately replaced. The Bentley manual has detailed instructions.
