[T3] Ignition switch removal

Hi,

I do not know what it is called but I will try to describe it. I have
1973 Squareback automatic tranny. One fine day, I tried to start my car on
with compufire installed newly. I tried to give a crank all the sudden there
is a smoke coming out from the steering wheel. I turned off quickly. And
tried to switch the ignition on, it would not let me rotate more than five
percent. I had an extra set of key to see if it is the key, no it is the
ignition switch, I had to remove the steering wheel to check it out. I
removed the ignition switch and it does rotates freely. My next guess that
the electronic component which I do not know what does it is called between
the ignition switch. I tried to remove it behind the steering wheel, I
couldn't, It budge. What is the right way to remove it? It is a small white
plastic hexagon right behind the ignition switch.

Thanks,
