This is correct, and this is the way VW recommends that you do it. I don't do this however, because it requires that I undo a connection that is probably fragile from living with engine heat for 25+ years. For this reason I recommend the way that I described in another message. It requires no disconnections, and is easy to do. If you have air conditioning, the engine compartment method is probably your better choice.
