Look at your FI wiring harness toward the front of the engine, the bundle that runs horizontally from the ECU toward the starter. About the middle of the left side, you'll find an inline spade connection, with one of the rectangular clearish plastic holders around it. The left side comes from the wire bundle from the ECU, and the right side leaves the bundle and goes toward the front of the car. Pull the wire from the RIGHT side, and with the ignition switch turned on, ground the wire. The ECU normally grounds the circuit for the fuel pump, so you are bypassing the ECU by doing this. If you are already able to run the car, this trick won't really help you to clear air from the lines as it should only take ten or fifteen seconds to run fuel through the entire fuel ring. However, if you are just putting your fuel ring together, it can be a helpful way to purge the air. Also, it's a good way to check your fuel pressure without running the motor. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Nathan Jacobsen '62 NB '69 SB M/T ICQ #38633286 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> > I think Jim mentioned a few weeks ago that air can be purged from the fuel > lines by shorting out some special connections on the fuel pump relay and > thereby running the pump for more than the limited 1.5 seconds. > One of the books I have says that shorting out the wrong connectors can hurt > the ECU. > > Specifically which connections do I have to short out in order to run the > pump without starting the car? > > I ask because I just finished replacing all the fuel lines on my car, and I > started it again on the weekend (after the car sat in my garage for a full > year).
