[T3] Rebuilt Brakes Pulling to One Side

Hey all,

Two weeks ago, I replaced all brake lines, wheel cylinders and rubber brake
linings (shoes replaced last year and drums still excellent). After that,
I bled all the brakes and adjusted them very well. Since then, the brakes
on my '65 worked the best that they ever had since we bought it four years
ago.

That is, until this weekend when I pulled it out of the garage after
sit6/5Ž a week and suddenly felt the car jerk to the right when
pressing the brakes. This surprised me and throughout that entire day, I
was trying to figure out what might cause that. All four wheel cylinders
are new on the front (I replaced the rear ones two years ago) All shoes
are still in excellent condition, etc.

I jacked up the front end and adjusted the brakes again. Then, I bled the
front brakes again thinking that there may be some air or debris in the
system that would cause the car to pull to the right.

Here's the thing that I cannot figure out.... After checking the brake
adjustment (they were not out of adjustment) and bleeding them, I depressed
the brake pedal with a broom stick and held it depressed while I tried to
turn by hand the front wheels. With the brakes depressed slightly by the
broomstick, I found that the right and left wheels turned with the same
amount of resistance WHEN TURNED BACKWARDS. However, when I tried to turn
the front wheels in the forward direction, the RIGHT WHEEL seemed to BIND
and increased resistance to the point that it was almost impossible to
turn. Where as the left front wheel turned in the forward direction with
about the same amount of resistance that both wheels had when turned
backwards. What would cause this?

Here are some variables to consider:

-- weak brake springs (I used the old ones)
-- I needed to replace all front wheel cylinders because the old wheel
cylinders in the right front wheel froze open and almost cooked my wheel
and bearing grease
-- recently contaminated linings (but why do both wheels have same
resistance when turned backwards?)

Here are some things that I ruled out and why (of course, I may be wrong):

-- different cylinders on right side (all are the same size and are NOS)
-- brake linings swollen from brake fluid (possible, but both are NOS with
5.1 brake fluid)
-- out of round drum (no pulsating)
-- different brake shoe materials (all shoes are one year old with same
shoe material)
-- leaky wheel cylinder or lines (no l®e¦áThanks for your help.

All the best,

John
