That actually happened to me and my '65 B--tle quite a few years ago. I used vise grips attached to the end of the cable as the accelerator until I got to a shop... But, once I got the cable, I tied one end of the old one to the new one and pulled it through. Took all of 3 minutes and I was up and running again. I don't know if there will be enough clearance to do this with a T3, but it is worth a look.
