I removed the distributor that was in Inge last night and I could barely make out the first six numbers of the Bosch series but all the VW numbers were "disolved away" (for lack of a better term). Here is the real strange part: the last three numbers appear to read "009". The second digit seems to have a dash through it, however. Now, I know what "009" look like. So, now I'm not sure what the heck I have. I'll try some more today and solve this riddle. In any event, I'm 99% sure this is not a type 3 distributor. The PO probably had no idea what she was sold. It does have a sticker stating it is a remanufactured unit. But the conundrum is this: The distributor I removed was pointing in a SW direction when I had the engine at TDC, #1 cyl. I double checked that it was #1 at TDC. I then installed a known typ3 distributor and now the rotor is aimed in a SE direction or #2 cyl as it's now wired. The Bentley doesn't state specifically but The Idiot Manual says #1 should point NW. I have three different orientations here. I checked the distributor slot in the engine and it is as the Bentley manual shows exactly. What the hell is going on here? All I wanted to ‰Š6?wap distributors to see if there was any performance change. Does nayone have a clue as to what is happening, what has happened? I have a feeling that something is 180 degrees off, maybe my brain?
