Body built by Karmann....styling (design) by Ghia of Italy. The Type 1 Karmann Ghia (as it should be correctly called) is the same....built by Karmann, styled by Ghia. The Type 1 K-G has sort of taken the Karmann-Ghia name for itself, much like Xerox has for copiers. This also explains why the Type 1 convertibles never got the K-G moniker. They were modified/built by Karmann, but the Ghia design studio had nothing to do with the styling.
