VW Factory manual says:- 311 405 361A and 371A use an M8 x 40 bolt for the lower fastening and fit up to chassis 273513, while the later ones 311 405 361B/371C use an M10 x 40 bolt. I assume the curved groove to accept the bolt is a different radius as a result. The earlier joints have a small groove about 1mm wide around the adjusting part at the bottom, but obviously not on the flats themselves! This may not be reproduced in non-genuine ball-joints, I suppose. Dave.
