This is not one of the standard Sapphire dealer installed radios.  Is 
it a Blaupunkt?

I know of no radios that have dial lights like this.  I suspect that 
you have a bad connection somewhere (possibly inside the radio) that 
changes in response to the shock when you push one of the buttons. It 
is possible that your radio has some kind of shutter that moves in 
front of the bulb when you switch bands. This shutter might have 
carried 2 colors of filters to indicate the 2 modes and possibly one 
filter has fallen off.
