The fact that it started suddenly is certainly important; that rules 
jetting problems.  You might want to check to make sure that you are 
getting enough fuel to the carb when it needs it.  If you have a 
clogged filter or screen the carb could be starving.

If you can put a tee in the fuel line between the pump and the carb 
and watch the pressure while you drive (under load) then you should 
not see any drop in the pressure as you drive harder.  If you do, 
then the pump cannot keep up, and it is probably not the pump's 
fault.

Other possibilities are a clogged jet, or possibly a vac advance 
diaphram that tore.
