I have done a smattering of research into this and it's nice to know at least one of our members is an active member (Steve, goooo buddy!). One thing I would like to point out is that automobiles are being made with recycling in mind. I know VW uses plastics and metals that can be recycled. Last I read about this (for VW) was 70% or more of the car is recyclable. I can't remember if they use recycled material in their vehicles, though. Yes, the public assumes an old car is a gross-polluter. Personally, I've met far too many people whom I think are gross-polluters...and they reproduce (which really makes me nauseous)! We can thank slanted advertising for this bigotry. Best we can do is get involved and inform others. I try. I use my '75 Porsche 914 as an example. Even though it has a tired engine it ALWAYS scored way low on the nasties emissions.
