Re: [T3] Contagious Broken-Back

Hi Allen,

I have just gone thru this very same thing on my '69 Fastback. It was
the left rear wheel bearing.

Pulled the assembly and found that the inner bearing was fine but that
the outer bearing was dry. It had not scored, no bluing, no excessive
play so it was repacked with grease and reinstalled. No more problem.

I too checked the CV joints, especially since my FB is lowered thinking
there was too much strain on them. Nope, they were tight and the
boots were not split. Inspect your CV boots for splits. If any of
them are split, that could be a problem in the making as well.
Usually CV joints will do the click, click, click, routing when a
side load is placed on them such as going around a corner which isn't
the case with what you've described or what I experienced.

Good luck.
