I'm not sure that this would have any bearing on your current starting 
problem, but you may want to check that your choke mechanism is working 
properly. If the choke is adjusted right, it must have power to move 
into the cruise position. Loss of power to the heater element or a 
burned-out element will shortly cause an over-rich condition and stall.

=> There is a white/yellow cover on top of t7䦛and I can't seem to 
=> get it off. 

Congratulations, you have both an original VW pump and a relatively rare 
pump cover. Handle them with care, they're very much worth keeping. The 
cover is held together by a large snap ring around the base. Hook it out 
of its trough and push it down and off. Bear in mind that the cover is 
probably brittle, and you'll want to go carefully.
