one reason that might happen is your valve guides may not be within tolerances. what happens is as the exhaust stroke happens, air is driven really fast and creates a vacuume which in turn sucks oil from around the rockers. VWs shouldnt have this problem because they are horizontally-opposed engines. V-type engines have tried to stop this from happening by placing little umbrellas on the valve stem and thatنإءot suck in so much oil. ive been thinking of experimenting with umbrellas on my VW engines but only on the intake. and if you decide to do this, remember that they did not come stock with them and the reason is that the valve guides have to be lubricated so they dont wear out so fast. as for backfiring, recheck your timing and sparkplug wires. hans 73' thing 70' square ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
