You need ot check to see if metal is torn underneath so that your engine is drawing in hot air to try to cool itself. The 4 louvers started in 71 and are part of the "flow through" venš‡i system. The fan also started in 71 and does not help with the heat but rather with the fresh air intake. Your other car is earlier. Check the VIN's 3rd digit; I think you'll find that it will be a zero indicating a 1970. In most ways, these two years are still very similar.
