Put a main kill switch at the battery + wire instead! I have seen battery pole shoes in various catalogues, that have a built-in switch and a by-pass for radio, alarm and such. But you can easily make one yourself. Get a large battery switch (the kind used on boats and race cars, with a big lever as "key"). Should you find one with a key-lock, tell me where you got it! Put the switch aside the battery, or let the "key" stick out through the board beneath the back seat. Then you can easily disconnect the battery while parking your baby - no need to get dirty, disconnecting ignition wires and stuff... Put a hang-type fuse (8 amp should do) across the switch poles to by-pass voltage to the radio, dome light, alarm etc. It will blow immediatly if a starting attempt is done while switch is in off position. A more clever car-thief could of course have this figured out, and cross-connect the switch. Maybe it should sit in a more hidden place? Maybe under the right rear fender, connected to the starter lead? But then you will get dirt on your sleeve... I guess you can also put hidden switches to disable the coil, the fuel pump and the ECU (on FI cars), for extra security. As Scott pointed out - take precaution so you don't fry things up! A more sophisticated (and very expensive!) solution is to get one of those new batterys with built-in micro-processor, which can be remote-controlled to shut off the starting power when the car is locked/alarmed. Same idea as above, really. All these things will at least make it harder for the burglar. He might give up and leave the scene... /Karl-Olov Sandin > -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- > FrŒn: scott a keck [SMTP:noddaz@juno.com] > Skickat: den 3 februari 1999 21.44 > Till: type3@vwtype3.org > €mne: [T3] anti theft no-no's > > > all my rides have had a kill tÏîÆ nstalled + an alarm.
