Folks, I need some help. I just installed a 2110cc motor into my Fastback last week. It ran fine for a day then started to miss. The miss got worse and now it runs extremely poorly, and only fires on all four occaisionally. At idle it only runs on one cylinder(#3). I pulled the plugs(Bosch W7CC, 3/4" reach) today and see that it is running rich. The plugs from cyls 1, 2, and 3 were sooty but dry. The plug from cyl 4 was black and wet, but not oily. I put a new set of plugs in and it didn't help much. It runs dual 40 Dellorto DRLAs on shortie CB Performance manifolds, Mofoco 042 heads (box stock), stock fuel pump, and the major shortcoming, a hydraulic valvetrain. The cam has a pretty hefty duration, but not really all that wild. The ignition system is stock VW, with a 009 distributor and Bosch blue coil. Should I look for an upgrade there? This is my first performance motor and I'm not really familiar with how different everything works on it. For instance, do the carbs need a balance tube between them? Just what is the proper procedure for setting valves using hydraulic lifters? How do you go about re-jetting the carbs? Is there a book on Dellorto carbs? I've synched single throat carbs before, is it the same procedure with dual throats? Thanks for any help you can give me.
