It can cover holes maybe 1" wide and they can be long an thin. For larger holes substitute alum sheet or galvanized steel for the fiberglass. Whatever patch you put in will eventually fall out, but they last a couple of years and the LPS/tar stops the rust, assuming you stop the moisture supply.
