>Just make sure its not a leaky front main seal, oil dripping from the bell >housing and remember... > I recently sprung a leak from somewhere, and I had suspected the oil cooler--last time I looked underneath (about 3 weeks ago during an oil change) the bell housing looked dry. But when I got under there to adjust the clutch pedal freeplay last night, it was indeed wet with motor oil, not gear oil. So now I figure there's a fair chance that motor oil from a leaky crankshaft oil seal may be contributing to my clutch problem. So this weekend while I fix the seal, I'll also look into fixing the clutch and, as some have suggested, I'll probably replace the release bearing while I'm in there. Or might it be possible that the clutch problem takes care of itself with some clean-up after the oil seal is replaced? When I read the procedure on the crankshaft oil seal, I see reference to a sealant. Any suggestions on type of sealant? Think a clutch/main seal beginner like myself can get the job done over the weekend? I have a garage and the tools (I think). I'll go shopping today or tomorrow.
