The drum brakes are just fine. The bonus of disc brakes are ease of maintenance (self-adjusting) and consistent/more controllable brake pedal feel. They are generally simpler in design and thus to repair. Vented discs, however, do help in cooling. It's not so much on a hp figure but how you drive in relation to how the brakes were designed. The bigger the car and the faster it's expected to be driven help decide some of this (T3 is bigger than a T1 so it has bigger brakes [weight > power]; F1 are very light but have a LOT of brake [weight < power]). Generally, the more hp a vehicle has it will be expected to be driven faster, thus needing better brakes to dissipate heat and stop the vehicle more quickly. If I only drove my baby in town or I always adhered to the speed limit (pshaw!) and drove like a model driver then the brakes I have would be perfect, if not over-kill.
