I am amazed that this question has not come up here before. There are 2 bolts that hold it in place; their heads are under the rubber door seal next to the strap. You can carefully pull the rubber up to see it these have come loose. Of course you need to make sure that the front end of the strap is well attached to the door jamb. If the door check strap assembly is actually broken, I may have parts, or you might get an old one from a junk door. Never throw out an old door before first salvaging this part. BTW, they NEVER worked very well at holding the door open.
