It may be too late for you, but those plastic clips are best removed by gripping their sides with pliers and pulling straight out. If you are lucky, the prongs won't break off. Then you can push out the plastic peg and refit them without any difficulty. The ones at each end you can push the peg out first, but if you do that with the centre ones, you lose the peg. Might be able to get some plastic rod the right size to replace the ones you lose, though. I usually manage to re-use these clips. I think the moulding is the same from about Aug '67, so even if you have earlier clips, it should be possible to use later ones. My son's '70 Fastback seems to have the metal clips. Maybe a local scrapyard has a Type 3 with some salvageable clips. Dave.
