What do you mean by "big deal"? Personally, I think every VW should have one unless you are going for the pure stock look. If you are going to install one then it does take some time. The best time to do it is during the engine rebuild since it requires you to plug and drill into the case. However, it can be properly done with the engine in the car as this is how mine was done. I used the Gene Berg full flow system and it comes with good instructions on how to do the full procedure. If you do it with the engine still in the car (a non-rebuild installation) then you will need an air compressor as the case is pressurized when doing some of the work.
