Berg chose 212F as the trip point for his dipstick thermometer. He did this because it was easy to calibrate in boiling water and also, I assume, gave a warning at a good temp. So I would say that your temps sound fine. Just to be safe you should see what your gauge measures in boiling water. It is not safe to assume that it is well calibrated.
