The WCM catalog lists type 3s through 74, and some of our listees
from down under insist that they were made there in 74.

I'm SURE I replaced a voltage regulator in a late (73?) squareback
once and I suddenly noticed that it was EASY to get to the screws. I
was astonished to see that that car had no rear armrests. I had
never heard or seen of that option before or since.

In the later years the (US market) Type 3 Owner's Manuals mention 3
models: Fastback, Squareback, and Type 3 Basic Compact. Can anyone
tell me what the latter was? Is this what you are talking about?

Around that time I was living in southern California and I saw at
least one late model Notchback there which made me think this might
have been the "Type 3 Basic Compact."
