What?? Isn't there a provision for driving or registering a car with an
odometer that has "exceeded its mechanical limits" or "mileage shown is
not the actual mileage"? While living in CA I drove around an old car
with a broken odometer, but nobody at the DMV ever cared, as long as the
speedometer worked. If the DMV doesn't care about the odometer, I can't
see why an insurer would care.

By the way, is it true that anything older than a '72 is now exempt from
the CA smog testing? To be exempt, do the original emissions controls,
etc. need to be in place? Soon I'll be moving back to CA with my '70
fastback that used to be FI but now has carbs (not my fault). All of the
original emissions controls that originally came with the car are gone.
Would I be able to register my car without extensive mods? I would
appreciate any input from you CA listees..
