Only disadvantages! You get the same size engine, and no chance of ever getting it to cool properly. The cooling air for the type 3 engine is drawn in through the rubber bellows in the rear. This brings in air that is cool from the louvers on the rear fenders The type 1 engine draws air in from behind the tombstone. On the type 1 cars this air comes from louvers in the engine lid, and the lower part of the engine, where the hot cooling air is exhausted, is sealed from the upper part where the cool air is drawn in. When one puts a type 1 engine in a type 3 car, the engine recirculates its cooling air and promptly overheats. Of course one could engineer a way around this, but why bother when it has already been done for you?
