StiegH=> Is there any advantage to the upright shroud? Well, it's easier to find parts. Disadvantages? Poor cooling, loss of compartment space, a lot more noise, butt ugly, etc. This idea comes up here once in a while, and the consensus usually runs something on the order of, "If you like the upright engine better, get a Bus, so you'll have almost as much cargo space as a Squareback." => How would a 914 engine work? If you really want to undertake the high cost and extensive reengineering of a rare and beautiful car that this would entail, you'd get a little more muscle, a lot more hassle, a butchered car, and, again, compromised cooling. => Any suggestions on a good engine setup? The stock setup works terrific. Those German designers weren't fools, y'know. Try it, you might like it!
