I don't think it is a good idea to advance more than that since the FI distributors have a lot of advance built into them. Ping and knock (same thing, just a matter of degree) are usually just low RPM phenomena, they should not happen above 1500-1800 RPM. Perhaps you should downshift and take advantage of the better operating conditions and cooling at higher RPMs. This usually improves power, too. I don't know the hill all you guys are talking about (this is getting pretty local, after all) so what altitude are you at? > Suggestions? The other possibility is that any of our (stock) cars would have felt the same. Of course there are many other possibilities. Has something changed in your car, or does it seem the same as it always has?
