I think the salted road states have tougher inspections. New
Hampshire had body rust checks, brakes, suspension, steering, lights,
etc.. After I bought my 31 year old car in Oregon, all I needed was to
transfer the title and register ($30)! Cars up to 25 years old require
a smog check, but nothing else.
I remember from Michigan there was no inspection of any kind, yet it
was a heavy salt state. It is scary to see cars driving with essentialy
no lower body work intact.

Is it really true there isn't any regular testing of roadworthiness in
some of the States?
