I think you make a good point. We've had regular, quite stiff testing called the MoT in the UK for some 20 years now, and it hasn't caused major problems to cars apart from those that shouldn't be out there. I can't believe some of the unroadworthy stories read on the newsgroups, and the line seems to be "who do they think they are telling me I can't drive my car just because it is a danger to road users". We are lucky because Britain doesn't have its own car industry any more - just other countries' companies. The only true British cars are Classic cars, so we gain from the fuss that is made to keep them going! I don't believe the shortage of Type 3s in Germany is the cost of gas. It is more like $4.70 in Britain. BTW, the Typ 3 Liebhaber e.V. is a good club. Dave.
