That was my experience too when visiting Germany. In 10 days in Hannover, I didn't see any in Hannover, but did see one in Gottingen. Last summer we spent 3 weeks in Germany touring in the Camper, but only saw two Type 3s on the open road (one a yellow Squareback in Wolfsburg). There were quite a few at the Berlin Type 3 Club 10th meeting (Aug 97), and about 75 or so at the Amsterdam Type 3 meeting Feb 97 (see my website for reports), so there are some around. Buses, which are plentiful over here (UK), seem almost non-existent anywhere but in the Berlin area. I reckon most (West) Germans have go rid of these old cars long ago, but the poorer (East) have bought them up (maybe they are the richer for that!). Dave. Recently I posted a message about my German visitor and her observation that she has seen more Squarebacks in her two months in the U.S. than she has seen in two years in Hanover, Germany. I never saw my posting on the list, so maybe it went too far out into cyberspace. Regardless, I am curious to learn if her statement was correct...that Squarebacks are very rare in Germany (at least in Hanover). That assertion is hard to believe, but she swore she wasn't teasing me. And she did take pictures of my Squareback to show her friends when she gets home! Strange... Does anyone have any observations on this matter? Phil dillard@suu.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
