VW sold cars in different markets (countries) with various equipment depending on what the laws required in those markets. So the correct lens is relative to where you are, or to where the car was originally sold. Cars sold in the US did not get the amber tops, but those were common in most other markets, thus it is correct to call them "European" as well as Japanese. How about Down Under? In the US, the rarer tricolor late lens is sought after, but it may well be that the two color late lens is more sought after in Europe. Trivia question: What feature does the otherwise flashier tricolor late lens lack that is present in the red/white late US lens?
