I've had wires break back up inside the boot, at the top of the hard plastic plug. It can give erratic performance as it's doing the last little bits of breaking. I've since rebuilt these plugs several times... you can depress a little tab to remove the spade connectors, gently bend them so that they grab the injector a little tighter if necessary (I've had very loose ones), and re-solder the connector.
