Not sure what I'm hearing, but it sounds like a very mild knocking coming from my engine. When I try to locate the source at the engine, I lose it. Posibly from the left side of the car. What I'm wondering is whether this might be muffler or exhaust related. After all the tune-up work I've done, checking and re-checking everything, I have a hard time believing its anything as bad as a rod, but its nagging me. Makes my engine sound like a sewing machine, sort of. Hard to describe. I think I'm running a little on the lean side still. After warm up, car's slightly jerky on the first go into 2nd gear - have to be sensitive on the accelerator pedal. I'm about to take a 4 hour trip to DC and just want to be partially confident I know what I should expect, and where I should focus my attention. 72 Squareback - dual Weber 34 ICTs, manual transmission 1600cc, brand new used distributor, timing set to 3 BTDC. Running on 10W-40 oil. Valve clearance at .006". Last compression check a few months ago, with good results, and otherwise running fine. Please if you have questions, give me some idea of what to be looking for because I may not have time to answer them. -Mike Brooklyn NY ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
