[T3] wheels, shocks and a short

Hello All!

[sorry, I forgot to say I own a 71 squareback...]

Many, many, many thanks for all your help. This truly is the best
resource I have ever found in any field (comming from a research
assistant, that's high praise!).

My questions are:

What can I do to "beef up" my suspension without "going overboard" I'm
looking to have a great daily driver without being superfluous.

I just got new rims, empi's 8 spoke... the screw in studs I was told by
the guy who mounted my tire weren't safe. Is that true? What other
options do I have?

This is the big one.... and it is really starting to get to me. I have
no brake lights and no rear left parking light. According to the wiring
diagram in Bently, that tail light is in fuse 2 position. However, when

I replace the fuse and turn on my lights fuse 1 blows. Go figure.
Problem two is that when I brake the fuse for my stoplights, horn etc.
blows.... so stating what I think is the obvious I have two shorts
somewhere, right? Well, I don't have much equipment or a place to
really work at school to try and figure this out... so I am asking for
suggestions. I was going to buy new stoplight switches, found German
ones for 11.00 bucks a piece, but today I discovered the fuse blows when

I press on the brakes, so I am guessing the switches work enough to send

current to the short. Am I correct?

At one time not to long ago, both of these things worked fine and the
only thing I have done differently is install a new horn, one that
works.... or should anyway. I also had the horn button that the guy had

wired in under the dash removed because the one in the steering wheel
wasn't functional. What do you think? You think the short is in the
steering wheel, the horn button that was wired in was spliced on the hot

ignition wire.... guy was a real genius. That whole mess is gone, and I

am fairly sure I had brakelights after that, but who knows now... it was

a while ago.

Any help would sure be appreciated, but I think I'm in over my head here

without a multimeter and a garage.

Again, You guys are great. Especially much thanks to Jim and Steve.
If I ever meet you two in person, I'd be honored to buy you a beer.

Charlie Mallie
