my notch started to squeel last week(gen. belt) and it started getting to the point where my generator wasnt charging my battery fully. i finally got around to tightening the belt, by taking out one shim from the pully. the belt is tight now, not too tight, but im still getting a little squeel when i decellerate. its only a quick squeel and my gen is getting the full charge(most of the time, except today after i droveabout 40 miles, she hessitated a bit before turning over) so whats the prob? do i need to put some belt dressing on it or did i possibly tighten it too much, (i only took out one shim)could i cause damage to my gen brushes by tightening too much? also, i stopped by a local pick and pull which happened to have a pant load of vw's.(only bugs and ghias) after scrounging through all the mutilated and stripped carcases, i happened to stumble across a 67 bug in which somebody had overlooked that this bug had a set of brand new kyb gas-adjust shocks. i plan on going back in a few days and pull these shocks. what i need to know is if these will fit on my notch(64), if not, anyone in the sacramento roseville area, ill be happy to tell you which pick-n-pull its at if you have a bug in need of some pretty nice and almost new shocks for probabally a good damn price. this bug also had pop out windows, which i wonder if the hinges would fit on my notch. i have pop out glass but no hinges.. thanks to all tom 64 notch 97 jetta
