Now Toby, when you said "a small football team", I got confused. If you mean they're really short, you could have four of them (or eight if they are REALLY short - stack 'em two high) pick the car up by the torsion housing and the front beam so you could put the four jack stands, one at each corner (and fairly high up) so you can slide the engine out the side or the rear of the car after you got it on the floor. Thick cardboard or thin plywood works well to avoid scratching things up. If, however, you mean there's only a couple of them, you may want them to just hang around to help you lift the engine and/or trans onto the stand or workbench. As far as protecting the sump goes, I think a cradle that supports the engine at the heads may work. Just remember, it adds more height when you want to slide the engine out (may already be a problem due to the sump). Seriously, I have removed my engine with the car on 4 jack stands, 2 at the beam clamps and 2 at the torsion housing and may never remove an engine by any other method. Of course, this excludes visits from the "garage hoist fairy". Jake
