Toby (B.), I've also been toying with that idea. The thing about the FI ECU (computer) is that it's just a dumb box. It has no idea what engine it is on, it just looks for certain inputs from sensors on the engine so it can tell the injectors what to do. Case in point, the Ferrari Testarossa has TWO Bosch Motronic ECUs on it's 12 cylinder engine. Something tells me that's not because Enzo and the boys in Marinello found them on sale, either. I've been thinking about putting a type III (d-jetronic) on my super beetle to solve my carburetor problems with this Weber Progressive and get an opportunity to learn more about the d-jetronic's capabilities at the same time. It has an 1835cc engine and I will be trying to use the larger injectors from a 914 to match the larger displacement. Porsche used the d-jetronic on the 914's up to 2.0 liters (somebody correct me?), so it should be able to work with larger engines if configured with the proper parts from a 914. Now, my questions. Does anyone know of a source of information about the injectors themselves (i.e. flow rates, GPH ratings, etc...)? Also, I need to get the source for the injector wiring connections again, if possible. I think Greg and maybe Jim had information about where to get them, but I can't find them again. I am still looking for sources for the reproduction wiring harnesses I hope to start producing. So far, I have found the wire itself, in stock PVC insulation and the correct brass connectors. I also have a source for PTFE insulated wiring (I have tested this myself where I used to work, and it WILL withstand 400 degrees F - we placed a piece of this wire in direct contact with one side of a 12mm stainless steel plate and welded directly opposite it - without damaging the insulation. Good stuff!). I am searching for the correct tool to crimp the connectors exactly like the stock wiring was done. So far, all I have been able to find are production machines (read: big $$$). Other potential problems may be the connector for the ECU itself, and the factory diagnostic connector. Any ideas? My squareback should be back from the body shop later this month (FINALLY!), and the first wiring harness available will probably be an engine wiring harness for '71 squarebacks.
