T3: RE: Crane/Allison Ignition.

Greg finally said it right!

I use good quality stuff and only have to change it every 15K or so, I
have NO complaints about my ignition, stock as it is. The electronic systems
are more forgiving to poor tuneup conditions but if everythings right they dont make too much difference if any at all.
And one more important note, We T3's must use that stubby short dist cap,
which is OK if everything else is cause the high tension voltage never has
an opportunity to get high, but if your plugs get fouled, the voltage will get
really high and start arching around everywhere and cause things in the cap and
harness to fail. This ISNT reliable!!!
Notice how GM went to such a HUGE dist cap when the HEI ignition came out??
you needed it! Notice how chrylser didn't?? and they had real problems with
the ignition systems in the old K cars for years, tuneup would get bad and
they's burn out the coil wires, and other things. You dont want THIS happening
in the middle of N Dakota!!

I have always wondered... I wonder what would happen if, before
installing one of these fancy ignition kits, somebody would first install
new Bosch points, plugs, wires, condensor, coil, cap & rotor and do a full
tune-up on the engine, drive it around to see how it runs... and THEN
install the fancy ignition for a comparison. I know that a few simple
tune-up adjustments makes the typical stock engine smoother, quieter,
stronger, higher-revving, easier to start, etc.
