I'm thinking about lowering my 73 fastback before I have it painted...I'm just wondering what is involved in the process. I know it involves removing the rear spring plates and rotating them 1 or more notches on the torsion arm. I'm just wondering how difficult it is to release the spring plate, which I assume is under considerable tension. In the front you work with the torsion arms, but once again I;'m not sure whats involved. I thought that only the lower part of the type III beam housed a torsion bar...is that the only thing that would have to be adjusted, or do you have to do the top, too. Approximately how long would this operation take? Just some back ground on my experience, I've worked with just about every part of a VW but the tranny and the suspension...so in terms of working with the suspension, I'm a beginner. I'm only looking to drop it a notch or two (maybe 1.5-2 inches in the rear, and 2.5 inches max in the front)...Would I need new shocks for a mild drop? I'll probably go with a set of aftermarket wheels, which will need new tires too. As much as some people don't care for them, I rather like the Riviera-style wheels. Any idea what size tires I could use with the drop mentioned above. I know I've asked a lot if questions here...I'm sure a thorough description of the procedure could fill volumes (just point me to the source and I'll buy it)...but any information any of you could provide would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks! -Doug 69 auto FI square 73 FI fasty (to be dropped?) 98 NB douglas_brashear@mail.amsinc.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
