I have found the external oil coolers nothing but a heartache. What I did was take two sets of left hand side cooling tin, the piece that covers the oil cooler, and raise the roof by pop riveting them together. This allows the mounting of a Type 4 oil cooler in the stock location. This cooler has 2 more rows of passages. The stock air cleaner even fits. The only drawback is mounting the oil pressure sensor, its not that tough if you have a universal case, and not beyond the average mechanic if you don't. The M10 tapered threads and the BSP 1/8 in and the american pipe threads are so damn close that you can mix them without worry. They will go in like 13 turns before the thread pitch starts to interfere and since there tapered they're designed to interfere. That's how they seal. Oh btw never use a larger than stock oil pump, it can easily shear off right at the cam if even mildly over-reved when cold ( it wasn't even that cold in sacramento). The melling is junk. Go with the hard anodized stock pump from Gene Berg. Chris ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web! Visit http://www.vwtype3.org/list/
