I have never seen a tank that has actually rusted through, so I think
it is fair to say that it is pretty rare. Still, given that yours
has perforated, I would not suggest that you try to repair it because
if it has gone through anywhere, then you KNOW that it is thin in
lots more places.

I have seen a two part epoxy putty that you knead together and apply
to the tank. This would probably hold you until you find a good used
tank. Let us know where you are located and someone is likely to
have one nearby. I have several.
