Probably does but I'm not sure I'd want to cut off the air supply from one side because you just never know (especially when the rpms get high)... The air flow characteristics are different between the front and rear. The Porsche oil cooler is in the wheel well. To put a secondary in the VW location you suggest would not be the same. Also, the waste heat needs to be discharged and that would entail cutting a hole in the rear fender somewhere. You don't want the waste heat to continue its path into the rear plenum then into the cooling air intake because then you are just preheating the engine's cooling air and that kinda defeats the purpose in the first place.
