Clicking Blue Relay

Howdy Volks!

First of all, I apologize for not doing a whole lot of
diagnostics on this, but it's strange enough that I don't
even know what to look at.

First the good news.  1966 Squareback 100% stock original 6v
everything.

I turn the key on (NOT started) and check everything electrical.
Wunderbra.  Everything works.

I START the car, and, I hear the (blue, 6v) flasher relay
just going bananas, clicketyclacketyclicketyclackety, which
sounds to be somewhat, but not entirely, RPM related.  Or
maybe..  When I get up to highway speeds, I either can't hear
it, or it goes away.

For the first few seconds, i.e., until I put the RPMS above
1500 or so, the red GEN light is on.  Belt is as I like it, Generator
charges the battery, GEN light goes off after driving, and comes
on dimly at night with lights on.  A little brighter with
flashers and/or wipers and/or radio.

Is the clicking relay a symptom of what?

My guesses, none of which I have had the patience, time, or
tools in hand to verify, are:

	1.	 A marginal ground somewhere in the expensive 6v wiring.
	(But cavalierly jiggling wires proved nothing.	Wires *look*
	and *smell* good.  Everything *works*).

	2.	The expensive 6v flasher relay itself.	(One symptom I
	did not mention,  If I turn a blinker on while the relay is wigged
	out, it 'crickets' as if recovering, and then the blinkers
	work normally.  The indicator lights on the dash are
	intermittent though.  If I leave the hazards on all the
	symptoms go away.)  Surely this relay will not live long in
	this context.

	3.	The expensive 6v voltage regulator.  Which is almost a
	complete mystery to me.  But the whole car thing is a
	mystery.  But my "what-if" brain wonders if something is
	going "positive...negative...positive...negative..."  Or
	perhaps "5 volts... 7.5 volts..."

	4.	The expensive 6v generator.  Hmmm.  Again, everything
	works.  The battery does not die.  This has been going on
	for a while.


What else is there?
