Hi all, my '71 has started running incredibly rich--dumping out smoke. It runs rough at idle & cruise, and just *flies* with oodles of power when accelerating hard. I stuck in new points & plugs (had 'em laying around), *electrically* tested injectors, both temp sensors, throttle position switch, manifold pressure sensor (resistance only) and the grounds directly at the huge main plug that connects to the brain; everything a-ok. The thing will still idle with the manifold pressure sensor vacuum hose disconnected--a new one for me (seem to recall that it would die when this happened in the past!). I tried swapping with a pressure sensor of unknown condition--no change. Ditto with a throttle position sensor that was clean & tested well electrically; no improvement. The cold start injector doesn't seem to be leaking (tested by running fuel pump w/ engine off; probe [screwdriver] stuck in intake came out dry). Also, the problem doesn't seem tied to any one cylinder--unplugging one injector at a time doesn't draw attention to any particular one; seems to be across-the-board. I swapped condensors (with one I had lying around--condition unconfirmed) with no change; ditto with a known good brand-new Bosch coil. I'm at a loss at this point. I'd *really* like to get this thing zooming again so that it will do the snow/salt/ice duty this winter, instead of the '69 (I know, I know--but we don't have a "real" car, and we enjoy eating & having a roof over our heads:). I haven't yet tried swapping brains (in the *car*, for all of you yahoos!), and I haven't done any flow testing of the injectors. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!! -Greg '69 & '71 Squarebacks '63 Beetle
