This weekend I started a project of disassembling a '73 Squareback. I hate to use the word scrap in this context and in this way I won't get some people having bad dreams with their type 3 playing the leading part in a large press on a scrapyard, ending bathing in sweat when a squareback is turned into a square hunk of metal...... No, the cannibalisation of this car is done with the aim of making one good car out of two bad ones. Anyway to make a long story longer; This very sorrowful looking car had been stored in a leaking shed for about 8 years and hasn't been touched in that time. Since I want to use the engine for spareparts and for the time my engine has to be overhauled (so I can keep my SB rolling) I told my friends I was gonna try to get the engine running. Laughter and pity was the reaction on this proposal. Not discouraged by my friends reactions I started some testing on the engine. After checking the electrical system I cleaned the malfunctioning contact points. Very hesitating but getting more enthousiastic with every turn of the starting motor the engine started running! First a bit caughing and stammering but after a minute it ran smooth and sounded like an awaken princess after being kissed by her prince. It's alive! (and KICKING)
